I came into this show completely blind to who Billy Strings was. I was there for Metallica (obviously) and happened to see Billy on the same stage while I was waiting for a good spot for the godly metal band. Billy Strings however proceeded to give me a surprise of a lifetime. Billy Strings brand of progressive country is unlike anything I have ever seen before. His incredible lyricism on songs like Away From the Mire shines so well, he is such an impressive vocalist. Billy is also one of the greatest guitar players I have ever seen live. He was pulling off insane licks and solos while rocking an acoustic guitar. The acoustic had so many unique pedals too so he was pulling off heavy tones and diverse sounds as well.
Billy's setlist was only nine songs but every single song put a huge impression on me. I now listen to him almost every day. Billy is an incredible breath of fresh air for the country genre. He is young, progressive, experimental, and talented. A lot of those values country is vastly lacking currently. Billy is the future and the future is now.
10/10
